A Different Christmas celebration With Aegis Singapore

Singapore, 29 November, 2013:  It’s the end of the year and offices around Singapore are gearing up for annual year end parties. It was no different here at Aegis Media Singapore with the exception of two things.

The first was a decision to go beyond just contributing money to a charity. It was decided that time and effort would be a part of our Christmas community project, instead of only a monetary contribution. To this end, we continued with our focus on children and partnered Child at Street 11 (, a non-profit community organization focused on reaching out, working with and developing children from lower income households. We partnered them in a holistic project which saw us painting 3 homes as part of their initiative, “Paint-A-Smile” which focuses on transforming less than welcoming homes into warm and brighter spaces through the simple application of paint. In this initiative, 50 Aegis employees contributed their day and money to buy paint and applied our creativity to painting 3 homes over 2 days, white, pink and even green!

“I come in, wow; my house is very nice, very beautiful. Thank you very much for everything. God bless you all,” says Madam Premala, the home owner, at seeing the improved state of her home.

In addition to the “Paint-A-Smile” initiative, we also donated gift vouchers from Popular Bookstore and Kiddy Palace, to enable school going students funds to buy new supplies for the new school year and for younger kids the ability to buy something nice for themselves this Christmas.

The second piece that’s making our year end celebrations a little different is our decision to cancel our traditional year-end party and instead replace it with a “Typhoon Haiyan” project. To this, we are donating the funds set aside for the party to the Red Cross fund raising efforts, turned to our media owner partners to send donations to this project instead of the usual lucky draw prizes and are conducting a bake sale on 16 Dec to raise more funds before we make our final total contribution to this project.

This re-focus has already made an impact on one of our colleagues who was affected by the typhoon. “As one directly affected by Haiyan/Yolanda and coming from Tacloban City itself, it’s very much heart-warming to know that Tacloban/Philippines are indeed not alone on this. HELP is coming in. Thank you very much.”

In 2013, Aegis Media Singapore celebrates Christmas with a little more heart, more involvement with the local community and to remember our neighbours in the Philippines in their time of need.
